Roughly translated to "The Floating World", Ukiyo-e was a popular art style throughout Japan's Edo Period, and the flat, graphic and ethereal illustrations translate well in the genre's preferred printing medium: woodblock.

Since 2010, artist Jed Henry has illustrated an ongoing series featuring contemporary pop culture characters anachronistically depicted in these traditional Japanese woodblock settings. This new cultural narrative derives inspiration from many of the most iconic cartoons, comics, movies and video games of the 1980s through today, depicted in the aesthetic style of traditional Japanese ukiyo-e imagery.

These images have been lovingly reproduced as archival pigment prints on a handmade Japanese rice paper. Each print comes signed and numbered by the artist.
