J.A.W. Cooper was born in England to a South African and British mother and an American father - both freshwater ecologists. Cooper grew up in Kenya, Sweden, Ireland, and various other countries across Europe. She currently lives and works as an illustrator art director and fine artist in downtown Los Angeles, California.
